Biography

Everyday I try to exercise my brain and body, and find something new to learn about. I read extensively, write gainfully, and drink massive amounts of tea, seriously.

I love many things especially spending time in nature. I love learning outdoor survival skills and outdoor tips as I write about the topics for OutdoorHub.com. I slowly preparing for two separate extreme outdoor adventures - one to the tip of the earth in Nunavut, Canada where the earth begins to split into glaciers and the other into the wilderness in New Zealand; where cliffs meet the coast.

I love traveling and have been to Europe, North America and Asia. My first trip abroad was when I was 5 years-old and my parents brought me from my home country of Poland to New Jersey, USA. We moved to Michigan not long after and I've moved around the state a bit.

I spent four years in East Lansing, studying Journalism at Michigan State University all the while photographing and writing for spartanedge.com. In 2010 I moved to Detroit then traveled again to Europe and Asia at the end of that year which sucked me dry of all my money. Currently, I'm working on getting back in the city and establishing my homebase there.

The shortlist of what I do:
Recycle
Play cards
Dance
Travel
Procrastinate
Love music

What I don't do:
Watch TV
Eat junk food
Walk to work
Wash my hair everyday
Spend money senselessly

The Peaks, People and Pictures in a Moroccan Mountain City

It’s pronounced “Chef-shauw-ehn” and it means “look at the peaks.” And there are plenty of them, even more peaks to gaze at than there are vowels in Chefchaouen. A tour guide who worked in a hostel in Granada, Spain recommended that if we go anywhere in Morocco, it had to be Chefchaouen. I wasn’t familiar [...]

Camping in the Sahara Desert, Part Two: The Campsite

It was not the golden sea of sand I pictured the Sahara to be. The sand was gray-beige with a slight tint of red, very rocky and relatively flat. Not one dune was in sight. The real endless miles of dunes start in Merzouga, Morocco, four hours away from where we were, Zagora. The small, [...]

The wolf continues to bounce back after it was hunted nearly to extinction by the early 20th century. This week, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service removed the wolf from the federal endangered list and put wolf-management control back in the hands of three Great Lakes states, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Now, it is [...]

Camping in the Sahara Desert, Day One: The Drive There

We made the mistake of a taking one of those “touristy tours” to camp overnight in the Sahara desert. In reality though, there is no other infrastructure available if you want to do a DIY desert tour. There is no bus connection, no train and definitely no plane. So if we wanted to see the [...]

In the City of the Jungle, Angkor Wat: Part Four

Past the crowd of peddlers I came upon the second guardians the to main entrance of Angkor Wat. Two large nagas (seven-headed serpents) stood at the end of the bridge. Now it’s official, this is unmistakably the entrance. The bridge across the moat extends overland and leads you directly into the main hall of the [...]

How To Make the Most of Your Emergency Blanket/Bivvy

On a trip to Morocco in January 2012, I planned to hike at least one of Morocco’s mountain ranges with my boyfriend on our first visit to the country.  We packed emergency bivvys (bags) at the bottom of our packs to be ready for a worst-case-scenario in an unknown country. While we mostly prepared for [...]

In the City of the Jungle, Angkor Wat: Part Three

I had really had my fill of all things Angkor the previous day and I hadn’t seen much of Siem Reap, the city tourists stay in when visiting the ancient temples, so I took an afternoon in the small town. Biking around the narrow market streets, I stopped to get a “foot massage” by fish [...]

Star Gazing: What to Look for January Through March

While it may not be pleasant for most in the northern hemisphere to step outside on a chilly night to spend a few silent minutes contemplating the origin of the celestial formations that surround us, getting to know the night sky is always intriguing and is the only (mostly) unchanged map humans have had for [...]
