Which is Harder: Skiing or Snowboarding?

Which is Harder: Skiing or Snowboarding?

What do you think? Have you tried both sports and found one impossible and one nothing short of enjoyable? Both require a good sense of balance and may reach speeds too uncomfortable for the novice rider. For the novice skier, are you afraid you’ll end up doing the splits around a tree or will you ride down the mountain on your butt for the novice snowboarder?

For the advanced skiers and snowboarders, does your chosen mountain medium offer you more speed and control than the opposing equipment? Let’s strike up a campfire and debate which mountain activity is the harder one in your opinion.

Which is harder football or basketball? This is not a question that has a real answer just as you can not ask whether football is harder than basketball.

I have heard a lot of people say that snowboarding is much more difficult because you don’t have your feet facing front, and you lack poles, as well.

It’s hard to say. Personally I’m more comfortable skiing as I’ve done it all my life. I’ve been snowboarding once, so no doubt it was hard. I think with practice both can come second nature. The real question is which requires more skill to jump and do tricks? I won’t be the one to find out…

Skiers have a lot more equipment to deal with which can be daunting for a beginner.  However, I think a Snowboard is much more difficult to learn balance on, especially at slow speeds.  It seems to me that Snowboarding definitely has a steeper learning curve.  For traverses and tight trees, nothing beats a good set of skis and poles.
