I had some free time on my hands and decided it would be a little more rewarding to build my own dirt sifter than to run out and spend $10 on one at the store. Besides, I had some old lumber and it need to be used for something. The only thing I had to run out and get to build this was some gutter screen which cost me about $3.
You will need a piece of 1×4, 4 foot long, a piece of 6″ x 3′ long metal gutter screen and some drywall screws and a few tools. Get out your trusty saw and cut two pieces of the 1×4 into 10″ long pieces, with the remainder of the 1×4 cut two more pieces 6″ long. Next cut your gutter screen into an 11.5″ long piece.
You can next get out a drill to pre-drill pilot holes into the wood to keep from splitting the ends. Two or three screws in each joint should do the job. Once you have your box fashioned you can lay the gutter screen on the bottom of the box and use drywall screws to fasten it to the bottom of the box. That is all there is to it! Now you can drop it into your pot of trap dye when you’re boiling your tools for the upcoming season! Good Luck!
