How To Use Dove Decoys

Hunting Tips

by Colin Anthony on June 3, 2011

For years I was against hunting over dove decoys. I never really thought that a dove would decoy worth a heck. After all a dove isn’t really that smart. However, last year I decided that I would try every type of dove decoy there is to see what works and what doesn’t.

I learned that you need to face all decoys into the wind. If you string rope from two predominate tree limbs and place a clip on dove decoys onto the wire you will really see birds act confident. I also learned that more motion decoys does equal more investigating birds.

My now perfect set up, which  I always have in my backpack, includes 5 feet of semi thick rope, 3-4 clip on dove decoys and two motion decoys. It may be a lot to carry for some doves but I’m still killing limits late in the season.
