Responsibilities

Summary: The Maintenance Technician II, 1st Shift is responsible for preventative maintenance and timely repair of production equipment including but not limited to Gerber Cutters, silk screen machines, RF welding machines, various types of sewing machines and embroidery equipment . Other responsibilities include installation of equipment, participation and supporting process improvement as directed by supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by management as necessary.

  • Maintains OEM operation/repair manuals and documentation on production equipment for reference.
  • Develops internal processes to maintain production equipment to OEM specification.
  • Maintains an inventory of spare parts needed to minimize downtime and reduce carrying costs.
  • Coordinates, schedules, documents and performs daily, monthly, annual preventative maintenance on production equipment.
  • Conduct a periodic inspection of other technicians work. ¿ that they are performing daily routine maintenance in a responsible manner.
  • Responsible for emergency Gerber cutter repairs on other shifts (4-hour minimum per call in).
  • Responsible for promoting safety/injury prevention for Gerber operators and maintenance staff on the Gerber cutters.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor for the procurement of outside contractors to carry out specific Gerber cutter repairs and monitors their work as directed.
  • Performs building and grounds maintenance as required, including snow removal.
  • Communicates and cooperates with production departments on problems concerning Gerber cutter maintenance.
  • Is knowledgeable and complies with all lockout/tagout policies and procedures.
  • Order parts and service on all production equipment, during the absence of the maintenance manager.
  • May provide direction to other maintenance staff in absence of Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Is included under the Employee Exposure Determination part of the Bloodborne Pathogens Policy under the list of job classifications in which some employees at our establishment may periodically have occupational exposure via machine and equipment cleanup, handling of infectious waste, or as a Designated First Aid Provider.
  • Responsible for injury prevention and promoting safety by keeping work area neat, clean and organized.
  • Participates in employee wellness and exercise program.
  • Performs miscellaneous other assignments as required.
  • Requires regular attendance to perform essential elements as listed above between the assigned start and end times for work.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience. (2) years post secondary preferred, 3 to 5 years job related experience preferred
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees in the organization. Ability to interact and communicate with co-workers on all business related issues.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to read numbers, count, add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Measure using a ruler.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to comply with company¿s and regulatory agencies quality standards.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee is required to use fingers, hands and arms to operate machines and reach for, hold, grasp, push/pull, and handle material repetitively with a high degree of dexterity. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and/or carry up to 75 pounds regularly. Distinguish fine visual details and color variations.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to limited moving mechanical equipment.
