Sally Grimes Resigns as Executive Director of Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition

Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) today announced that Sally Grimes has decided to step down as Executive Director after dedicating ten years of service and leadership to the organization.  OIWC’s Board of Directors has enlisted an executive search firm, The Forest Group, to help find a successor.  Grimes will stay with the organization until that successor steps into the role.

“My goal as the Executive Director of OIWC was to build an organization that was strong, powerful and effective while being inclusive and transparent,” said Grimes.  “Working with the Board of Directors and other incredible volunteers, we slowly and steadily developed structure, processes, and programs that have evolved into what you see today.

Over the past ten years, individual membership increased 300%; there are now over 1,500 members that partake in OIWC’s events and programs.  Corporate memberships have also increased, from 12 members to 90 members.  A decade ago, the volunteer pool consisted of 15 women, all of whom were on the Board of Directors.  Today, there are 130 volunteers that help manage the 40+ events at Outdoor Retailer, Interbike, SIA and in regions throughout the country.  These volunteers are also an integral part of the professional development program that serves as a career and networking resource for the women of the outdoor industries, as well as the new advocacy platform that focuses on respect, inclusion and gender equality at all levels in the workplace.

“OIWC and its volunteers encapsulate the passion of our industries. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity and experience of working with countless extraordinary people over the years,” added Grimes. “I do not know what the next step is for me, and I am looking forward to seeing where I land. This is an exciting new chapter for both OIWC and for myself.”

Said Amy Luther, OIWC Program Director, “Sally Grimes is a true industry leader.  I am honored to have been able to work with such a smart, collaborative, and gracious lady.  I feel such gratitude for all she has done to bring the OIWC to where it is today and the influence she has had in the outdoor industries.”   Carolyn Cooke, a founder of OIWC, added, “Sally brought leadership and vision to the OIWC.  In her years as the executive director, she expanded membership and programs and created an organization that is open and accessible to all.  I admire the passion she has for the advancement of women in this industry.  She will be missed!”

The Forest Group is working with OIWC to identify the next Executive Director. Details on the position will be released the week of May 7, at which point OIWC will begin accepting applications.

“I am immensely proud of what the OIWC has achieved over the years, and I am tremendously grateful that I have been able to play a central part in its evolution and success.” Said Grimes.  “My dedication to OIWC and its powerful mission has not waned…I will continue to stay involved with OIWC, and will forever be a dedicated foot soldier for the cause.”
