Two Legends Showcased at the 2012 West Virginia’s Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day

Two legends of the shooting sports will be performing at the 2012 West Virginia’s Celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day at Stonewall Resort State Park September 22 and 23. Star shotgun shooter Tom Knapp and legendary bowman Byron Ferguson will exhibit their shooting skills at the annual celebration, which is sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the West Virginia Wildlife Federation.

Tom Knapp is known as “The Shooting Star” and is recognized as the greatest exhibition shooter of modern times. Tom has thrilled countless shooters with seemingly impossible feats with shotguns.  Tom has been performing for the public since 1987 and has staged more than 100 live shows a year in the United States and Europe.  He has appeared on numerous national and local TV networks over the years and is currently appearing on the new Velocity Channel.  Tom holds three distinctive world records in “Freestyle Target Shooting” or “Exhibition Shooting” which made history in the shooting industry. Additional information is available from Knapp’s website www.tomknapp.net.  Tom Knapp will present his show at 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Byron Ferguson took an interest in the longbow at the age of 12, first shooting out candles in the pitch-dark night to develop his skill. He is able to shoot coins out of the air, split playing cards, and even shoot an arrow through a wedding ring in mid-air. Ferguson has performed in eight foreign countries and on dozens of television programs.  He visited Austria to shoot for the German version of “MythBusters,” History Channel’s “Extreme Marksmen,” and he performed all of the trick shots in the last “Robin Hood” movie.  Additional information is available from Ferguson’s website at www.byronferguson.com. Ferguson will present his hour-long show at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to Knapp and Ferguson’s jaw-dropping shows, dozens of demonstrations and hands-on activities, as well as close to 100 vendors, will be available to visitors during both days. A complete listing and schedule are available on the Division of Natural Resources website at www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/nathuntfish.shtm.
