The Lion’s Pride: Guns of President Roosevelt’s Children

Thursday night means we’re back in the saddle for another edition of Curator’s Corner. Sticking with our President Theodore Roosevelt theme, Senior Curator Phil Schreier brings John Popp to the “Lion’s Pride” portion of the new exhibit.
“The National Parks Service provided us with a great opportunity by loaning the National Firearms Museum many items from President Roosevelt’s private collection from Sagamore Hill,” said Schreier. “The panel, titled the “Lion’s Pride”, refers to the six children of President Roosevelt, who all were taught by their father to shoot, hunt, sportsmanship and safe firearms handling.”
Inside that panel rests four particular firearms. One is the 1903 Springfield that Kermit used to bag his first deer. Coincidentally enough, that event occurred just days before his father took office.
We were able to capture some of the interview from across the room. The quality isn’t great, but the video at the top should be enough to wet your appetite for this evening’s events.
