2013 Fall Turkey Season to Open in Western Maryland

Maryland’s fall turkey season will open Saturday, October 26 and continue through November 2, 2013. Fall turkey hunting is only permitted in Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties with a bag limit of one turkey per hunter.

Turkey surveys conducted by DNR show a slightly below average level of reproductive success this past summer but the overall population level in the open counties should be similar to what hunters encountered last fall. The annual mast survey conducted by DNR shows that acorn abundance is very low this fall, a condition which may force turkeys into crop fields and other areas where they are more easily observed by hunters.

Complete turkey hunting regulations, check-in procedures and information on public land hunting opportunities can be found online at dnr.maryland.gov/huntersguide or in the 2013-2014 Maryland Guide to Hunting & Trapping issued with each hunting license.
