New Jersey Pheasant Transport Boxes Donated by Union Sportsmen’s Alliance

Thanks to fund-raising and volunteer efforts by members of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance, the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is the recipient of fifty newly constructed pheasant transportation boxes. The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance is an organization of union members who hunt, fish, shoot and volunteer their trade skills for conservation. At the organization’s fall Tri-State Area Conservation Dinner $5,000 was raised to be used for a local conservation project.

Union volunteers, led by Tom Mattingly of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 351, union volunteers from IBEW Local 351 and 164, Insulators Local 14, Pipefitters Local 322, Sheet Metal Workers Local 27, Painters District Council 711 and Operating Engineers Local 542 used that money to support the Division’s Pheasant Program. The program raises and releases approximately 50,000 pheasants each year across 24 Wildlife Management areas to enhance hunting opportunities for the more than 12,000 pheasant hunters in the state. The pheasant transport boxes, which fit into the bed of a truck and hold 14 birds each, are used to distribute pheasants from the division’s Rockport Pheasant Farm.

For more information on the donation, see the article on the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance website.
