Bartz Says Proposed Rules Good for Iowa Sports Clubs

Rules proposed Tuesday by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for a newly established grant program will enhance Iowa’s shooting ranges and encourage activity in shooting sports, according to State Senator Merlin Bartz (R-Grafton).

“The rules we reviewed for the program will be of great benefit to Iowans,” said Senator Bartz, a member of the Administrative Rules Review Committee (ARRC).  “Thanks to the federal and state money in this grant program, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be able to enhance our state’s shooting range facilities and better educate the public about shooting sports.”

The newly proposed rules outline how the grant money is to be spent, eligibility requirements, and project guidelines, among other things.  Senator Bartz is encouraging interested Iowans to provide comments and suggestions for the proposed program to ben.berka@dnr.iowa.gov or 515-281-0140.  The deadline for public input is currently June 21.

The proposed rules were published in the May 30, 2012 Administrative Rules Bulletin and can be accessed via the internet by visiting https://www.legis.iowa.gov/IowaLaw/AdminCode/bulletinSupplementListing.aspx and going to page 1542.

“Hunter safety is important and this grant program will aid in education.  It will also have a ripple effect on the sportsmen of the state.  With greater interest in shooting sports, retailers and suppliers will benefit, boosting our economy and creating jobs,” Bartz went on to say.  “I’m looking forward to seeing the positive results of this program.”
