Time Lapse Video of Hurricane Sandy’s Path

As the largest Atlantic hurricane on record (with winds spanning 1,100 miles), Hurricane Sandy cut a devastating path through the northeastern United States, Caribbean, and Mid-Atlantic causing damages in excess of $20 billion. Thousands are homeless, millions are without power, many without clean drinking water, and the death toll is still climbing.

Disasters of this magnitude are impossible to comprehend. While traditional media and social media are filled with images of the individuals who have lost everything, this NASA project helps show the scale of natural disasters and serves to remind us that we can never be too prepared for what nature can bring to our doorsteps.
