West Virginia DNR Announces Changes for the 2014 Spring Trout Stocking Season

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has a couple of changes for the upcoming 2014 trout stocking season, according to Curtis I. Taylor, Chief of the DNR Wildlife Resources Section.
Wolf Creek in Preston County has been removed from the 2014 trout stocking schedule due to lack of access. The stocked section of Wolf Creek flows through private property which was posted early in 2013.
Baker Lake in Ohio County replaces Wood Pond as a designated Children and Class Q Handicap Fishing Area. Both waters are located in the Bear Rocks Wildlife Management Area. Wood Pond was becoming difficult to stock and fish. Baker Lake is much larger, with good fishing access around its shoreline.
The 2014 trout stocking season begins Jan. 2. The fishing regulations list which waters will receive one stocking during January. Those waters will be stocked as soon as weather and road conditions allow. Anglers can call the Fishing Hotline at 304-558-3399 or visit the website at www.wvdnr.gov to find out which streams and lakes have been stocked each day.
Anglers are encouraged to check out DNR’s new online interactive map which provides valuable information on all aspects of hunting and fishing adventures in the Mountain State. The new map contains considerable information for trout anglers regarding which streams and lakes are stocked, special fishing regulation areas and driving directions on how to get to those waters.
