Since 1986 the Youth Hunting Club of Minnesota (a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation) has been a part of creating and offering youth hunt camps during the summer. Perhaps the oldest youth hunting program in the country, the Minnesota Youth Hunt Camps are for boys and girls from ages 12 to 16 years. The sessions are action-packed, fun, educational and exciting. The dates for 2012 are June 17-22 (beginner), July 8-13 (advanced), July 15-20 (beginner) and August 5-10 (advanced).
The camps are held at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club in Prior Lake, MN. The Club carefully selects its staff from highly qualified, knowledgeable individuals, many of whom have been through the Youth Camps themselves. The Director and Counselors are chosen and trained to help campers grow their skills, improve techniques, gain outdoor experience and have safe fun in the process.
Bill Urseth is one of the founders of the Youth Hunting Club of Minnesota and is the current Director. He looks forward to heading up the camps every summer. He enjoys meeting the kids and passing on the experiences learned during his many years of hunting. “I am the lucky one who gets to work with these young people and watch them grow right in front of my eyes as their skills increase, confidence grows and experience becomes a part of them.”
Through year round fundraising efforts the Youth Hunting Club is able to sponsor between 40 and 45 kids per year to attend camp.
