Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Fatally Shoots Suspect

According to TKFYO Radio,  Shawn Hervey, a Bowie county game warden, shot a male suspect while working with the same county’s Sherriff’s Department.

The shooting occurred near a Texarkana federal prison around 1:30pm, January 26. Witnesses to the incident reported that the man crashed his vehicle, got out, and began shooting at the officers. Hervey then shot and killed the suspect.

Multiple Texas organizations are investigating the incident.

At the time of publication the suspect’s name had not been released.

Original press release issued by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on January 26, 2012:

A Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden stationed in Bowie County was involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in which the suspect was fatally shot.

The game warden was not injured in the incident, which occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. today on Cummings Lane southwest of Texarkana.

According to preliminary reports, the Game Warden had responded to assist the Bowie County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident is being investigated by the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Internal Affairs Unit investigators.

The warden involved is Shawn Hervey, a January 2001 graduate of the TPWD Game Warden Academy.
