Speed, accuracy and target acquisition is on Doug and Trevor Koenig’s mind as father and son compete at the 2013 US Steel Nationals in Titusville, Florida. Trevor, shooting his Dad’s former S&W 1911 winning pistol on the Super Squad, provides insight from a junior’s perspective on the importance of having a game plan for each stage.
Competitors have to figure out the best way to shoot each of the eight stages that includes 10” and 12” round steel plates and 18 x 24 inch rectangular steel plates set at distances of seven to 35 yards. Shooting seven of the stages five times with their slowest run time eliminated, each competitor shoots the final stage four times and three of their best run times are then counted. The remaining best times are added together to calculate their final scores.
Doug said, “To see Trevor mature as a shooter, and develop his own style and technique fills me with great pride.” Doug added, “He’s finding his way to define himself as a competitor.”
