The Walmart 2014 BFL Competition Travels to the Ohio River and Lake St. Clair

The 2014 Walmart BFL season continues with two tournaments on Saturday, Aug. 2. The Hoosier Division will fish on the Ohio River and the Michigan Division will take on Lake St. Clair. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.

NOTES: The bass fishing on the Ohio River is expected to be good. The fish will be in typical summertime locations and should be caught in the main river as well as in backwaters. Depending on the water conditions, some anglers could make long runs to find ideal fishing conditions. Topwater baits, drop-shot rigs, Texas-rigged soft plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs are all likely to be popular choices. The winner is expected to bring in about 11 pounds of bass.

NOTES: The bass fishing on Lake St. Clair is expected to be excellent. Anglers will choose between fishing in St. Clair, the Detroit River or making the long run into Lake Erie. Regardless of the location, the smallmouth are likely to be in the typical summer patterns and will be found on offshore humps and flats with rock, gravel, sand or weeds. Jerkbaits, topwater baits, tubes, drop-shot rigs and crankbaits are expected to be productive baits. The winner will probably need to bring a five-bass limit weighing around 22 pounds to the scale.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
