Crappie USA Tournament Results for Florida’s Lake George and Weir at Ocala, FL

This past Saturday July 27th Crappie USA held a experimental qualifying event on Lake George and Weir at Ocala, Florida. Anglers from  different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 16th-18th on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of George Parker of West Palm Beach, Florida and Tim Eberly of Margate, Florida with a total weight of 11.27 pounds and earning $1,000.00. George and Tim were fishing Lake George in 8 to 16 feet of water single pole jigging in the river on a break 2 to 16 feet catching their fish on or near the bottom using 1/32 ounce jig with Crappie Stingers to catch 45 fish for the day.

Second place went to the team of Joe and Janette Carter of Gilbert, South Carolina weighing in 1 fish at .85 pounds and earning $600.00. Joe and Janette were fishing Lake George, slow trolling to catch their one fish for the day. Team also won the Ranger Cup and Talon Bonus of $250.00 each.

In third place was the team of Roy Capes of Cordele, George and Robert Harris of Warner Robbins, Georgia.  Roy and Robert were fishing Lake George and are nationally known for long line trolling, but this time changed their presentation for this event and used a hook and minnow with a cork and said they shouldn’t have to catch their single fish.

Amateur Division Results

First place in the amateur division went to the Salt Springs, Florida team of Robert Watts and Gary Solana with a total weight of 8.62 pounds and earning $500.00. Robert and Gary fished Lake George vertical jigging in 12 feet of water on structure catching their fish at 9 to 10 feet deep and catching 25 fish for the day.

Second place went to the team of Mike and Dustin Baker of Silver Springs, Florida and John Peyton of Hudson, Florida with a weight of 5.04 pounds and earning $300.00. Mike, Dustin and John were fishing Lake George tight lining Southern Pro Stingers in 6 ft of water catching their fish on the bottom catching 5 fish for the day.

Third place went to the Ocala, Florida team of Daniel Blankenship and Greg Humphries weighing in 2.13 pounds and earning $200.00. Daniel and Greg were fishing Lake George tight lining yellow/black Southern Pro jigs in 10 feet of water to catch 2 fish for the day.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.

This was an experimental tournament for hot weather crappie fishing in Florida.  A big thanks to Corry Locke,  Sports Marketing Specialist Marion County Florida Sports Commission for being on hand to welcome the anglers at the Seminar.  Also Thanks to Jeffery Jenkins from Fish Habitat Forever for driving down  from Marion, Illinois to introduce their Marine Eco Habitat System at the Seminar and for giving 2 systems away.

Stats for the Tournament:

Weather-Morning was 72 degrees with scattered Thunderstorms with winds 8-13 MPH and afternoon highs 95 with sun and wind 7-10 MPH.

Water-Stained and 86 degrees.
