U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Archery: Texas A&M, Sept. 28th-Oct. 1st

College Station, Texas – The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Archery are headed to Aggieland. The first nomination shoot in this three-event Olympic Team selection process will kick off of September 28 in College Station, Texas, at Texas A&M’s Penberthy Recreational Sports Complex.

At this first nomination shoot, competing archers will begin the event with a day of practice, and will begin scoring on September 29 with a 144 arrow qualification round at 70 meters. The top sixteen men and women from the qualification round will then go on to compete in round robin match play, in which each archer will shoot a match against each other archer. At the conclusion of the event, the top sixteen archers will be ranked based on their results, and will go on to compete at the second nomination shoot in May.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this event to Texas A&M,” notes USA Archery CEO Denise Parker. “The organizing committee for this event has a longstanding tradition of hosting high quality events, and we are excited to kick off our Olympic Team selection events at a school with such a rich history in the sport of archery.”

This is the first time that Texas A&M has hosted the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, but the venue was home to the Texas Shoot-Out, a United States Archery Team Qualifier Series Event, for over twenty years. The university, the seventh largest in the United States, has also been home to one of the nation’s top collegiate archery programs, which has produced, or been an academic home to, several Olympians and World Archery Championships Team members.

Notable Aggies who will be competing for Olympic Team berths later this month include A&M gradate Victor Wunderle (NC), and Jennifer Nichols (TX), a current student at the university. Guy Krueger (CA), another alum and World Archery Championships team member, is now the Assistant Head Coach and Administrator for the USA Archery Resident Athlete Program.
