Comments Sought on Upcoming Idaho Chinook Season

Plan now to attend a Fish and Game public open house to provide input that will help shape this year’s Chinook salmon seasons.

Local Idaho Fish and Game fishery personnel will be presenting information on this year’s Chinook run forecast and discussing strategies on how to best manage the fish.

All opinions and suggestions regarding these issues are welcome.

Each open house will contineg until all angler comments have been addressed. Past meetings have lasted up to two hours.

Salmon season open houses will begin at 6 p.m. Mountain Time.

  • McCall: Thursday, February 28, at the McCall Fish and Game office, 555 Deinhard Lane.
  • Boise: Tuesday, March 5, at Fish and Game Headquarters, 600 S. Walnut St.
  • Riggins: Wednesday, March 6, at the Best Western Salmon Rapids Lodge, 1010 S. Main St.

Fish and Game staff hopes to hear from anglers regarding the season strategies anglers prefer most. Pre-season Idaho Chinook salmon return estimates are lower than past seasons, making season structure changes more likely.

Those unable to attend a meeting can provide their comments by contacting regional fishery personnel at 208-634-8137 or sending their information in writing to 2013 Salmon Seasons, 555 Deinhard Lane, McCall, ID 83638 or email to dale.allen@idfg.idaho.gov.

Individuals with disabilities may request meeting accommodations by contacting Kim Cox at the Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465; or Judy Wallace at the Fish and Game McCall office at 208-634-8137; or through the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-3529 (TDD).
