Indiana DNR Program Will Teach Turkey Hunting

Registration is open for a three-part DNR program in southeastern Indiana that will teach participants how to hunt wild turkey.

“Hunt, Fish, Eat: Wild Turkey” is part of the ongoing “Hunt, Fish, Eat” program offered through the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife that teaches Hoosiers self-reliance. The program is free.

Completing the program requires attending three sessions, March 7 and 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., and March 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. The location for each session varies and will be given to participants upon registration.

The program will focus on laws and regulations, firearms and safety, locating a hunting spot, tracking and field dressing your harvest, and handling and preparing your turkey for the table. Each session will include an opportunity to sample wild turkey recipes and examine hunting gear and resources.

All equipment is provided. Space is limited, so hunters are encouraged to register early.

To register or receive more information, contact Amanda Wuestefeld, Hoosier Outdoor Heritage coordinator with the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife, at (317) 234-8442 or awuestefeld@dnr.IN.gov.

A similar “Hunt, Fish, Eat” program in September taught 25 people how to hunt deer.
