Snowmobile Crash Seriously Injures One in Maine

Late yesterday afternoon, at 4:30PM, two men operating snowmobiles onBigWoodLakecollided, seriously injuring one of them. Robert Verge, age 62 from Scarborough, sustained head injuries and was taken to theJackmanHealthCenter, stabilized, and transported to EMMC inBangorby ambulance. His companion, Lawrence Salamone, age 61 from Gorham was not injured but was charged with OUI on a snowmobile.
Both men were operating Ski Doo snowmobiles and did not have helmets on at the time of the crash. Sgt. William Chandler and Warden Paul Mason went to the scene and investigated the incident. They were assisted by the Jackman Fire Department andEMSpersonnel from Jackman Ambulance. The matter is still under investigation.
The Maine Warden Service cautions all snowmobile operators to never drink alcohol and operate a machine, always wear a helmet, and be aware of ever-changing late season conditions.
