Youth shooting teams will see an increase in their Scholastic Shooting Trust (SST) endowment accounts after a substantial donation from Larry and Brenda Potterfield. The donation of $2.1 million will fund more than 400 teams across the country.
Contributions like this 2.1 million assist in accomplishing the goal of the MidwayUSA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity established by Larry and Brenda Porterfield to support and sustain high school, college and club shooting programs.
“This is our way of helping to change the future of shooting sports,” explained Larry Potterfield. “Most schools provide little or no funding for shooting teams, so it’s up to us to help.”
Teams with active SST accounts can submit a grant request for up to 5% of their total fund balance once per year for team expenses such as ammunition, uniforms, range fees, travel costs and more. The MidwayUSA Foundation, created in 2007, has nearly 1500 active shooting teams in its Scholastic Shooting Trust. In addition, along with consistent donations, the Potterfields currently match all general donations to the Foundation 2:1.
