Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit Ladies Train, Compete with Carina Randolph

“There are no advanced techniques, only advanced applications of basic techniques.” By quoting her first shooting coach and mentor Roy Bohmfalk, former USPSA National Champion Carina Randolph, who is sponsored by STI International of Georgetown, TX, began her presentation to the female cadets of the CCMU.

Ms. Randolph, who drove from Dallas to College Station, was taking time out of her busy schedule and away from her family to conduct a one day training event for the female cadets of the CCMU on Saturday, February 22nd and shoot the local USPSA match the following day with them and other members of the CCMU’s action shooting team.

Just one week removed from her finish as Top Lady at the Florida Open, Ms. Randolph spent the entire day coaching Cadets Naomi Boyer ’16, of Blooming Grove, TX and Sierra Martin ’15 of Conroe, TX in all aspects of USPSA style shooting using a very structured lesson plan and a very personal style. In the afternoon, the balance of the CCMU action shooting team joined them on the range and participated in some of the same drills and a short stage were each was coached, corrected and encouraged to focus and push themselves. At Sundays match, this same energy and encouragement continued as Ms. Randolph coached and shot along side of Naomi, Sierra and four other members of the CCMU.

The CCMU trains and competes in action shooting sports with other college teams and at 3Gun matches around the country, but it also works to grow participation in the shooting sports at all ages and among both men and women. However, recruiting women is where the action shooting sports have the most room to grow and having ambassadors like Carina teaching young shooters how to be Champions is the pathway to success. As she simply stated the key to life and shooting “was all about managing the details to mitigate potential disasters.”

The CCMU is very grateful to its industry sponsors for their support of this team and its activities both on and off the range. The cadets of the CCMU want to recognize all of the companies large and small who graciously sponsor the team for their continued support and also the team’s primary equipment sponsors Kryptek, Blade-tech and STI for the cutting edge gear they provide. Please take a moment to visit the Sponsor page on the CCMU web page and Thank these businesses for their support with business of your own.

The CCMU was officially formed in December of 2011, but today’s squad represents the latest in over 100 years of history of marksmanship teams competing for the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. The CCMU fields competitors in the action pistol sports, steel pistol sports, 3Gun, highpower and international trap and skeet. Team members are drawn exclusively from the 2,300 men and women of the Corps of Cadets who are all undergraduates at Texas A&M. Scholarships and in-state tuition are also available for CCMU cadets. The cadets of the CCMU are supported and partially funded through the generous efforts of the Corps of Cadets Association (http://www.corpsofcadets.org) a private non-profit group committed to sustaining the 138 year old traditions of the Cadet Corps at Texas A&M. Please contact them to make a tax deductible donation on the teams behalf.
