Video: Wisconsin Governor Signs Bill Lifting Deer Baiting Bans

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has signed a bill for a new hunting law that has sparked both change and controversy across the state.

WBAY reports that 43 counties in Wisconsin originally imposed bans on baiting and feeding deer, but those bans were lifted for 15 of those counties, including: Barron, Burnett, Calumet, Clark, Dodge, Jackson, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Polk, Racine, Sheboygan, Washburn, Washington, and Waushara.

The whole idea behind banning baiting and feeding is to slow the spread of CWD by preventing deer from sharing bait piles. With this rules change, hunter’s reactions have been pretty mixed; some hunters want baiting to go away statewide, while others enjoy having the option of using bait in limited quantities.

Keep an eye on the DNR baiting and feeding web page, because they will be working to keep it up to date, so if another deer tests positive for CWD, the ban will go back into effect in that county.
