Croatian Hunter Shot in Back While Hunting Lion in South Africa

A Croatian hunter has been shot dead while on a lion hunting expedition in South Africa.
According to RT, the hunter’s name was Pero Jelinic, a 75-year-old man from Croatia who reportedly was a very successful hunter. He had harvested many animals in Europe, and decided to travel to Africa to pursue lion. He already has one lion on his resume, and this trip’s goal was to add a second.
“Pero was a passionate hunter of big and small game, and in search of that he traveled most of the world,” a friend of Jelinic told Jutarnji – a Croatian media outlet.
During the hunt, reports say a “stray bullet” struck him from behind on a remote farm, but South African Police Service (SAPS) continue to investigate, as they suspect some level of foul play within the group in which Jelinic was hunting.
Pero was airlifted to Vryburg Hospital, but he died shortly after.
“For the past year he had leased his hotel to dedicate himself to the things he planned to accomplish and enjoyed a deserved retirement. He unfortunately received the ugliest end – he died in South Africa doing what he loved. His office, a hunting hall, was full of trophies, deer and bear, and everything that could be hunted in Croatia and Europe.”
