Lost Keys: Biscayne’s Forgotten Islands Opens in Biscayne National Park Gallery

Lost Keys: Biscayne’s Forgotten Islands, a photography exhibit featuring the lesser-known islands of Biscayne National Park by Miami realtor Clair Holash, will be on display at the Park’s Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery from June 15th to September 3, 2012. A “meet the artist” opening reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center located at 9700 SW 328 Street, 9 miles east of Homestead, Florida.

The display will include 24 black and white photographs of park islands – not Boca Chita, Elliott and Adams Keys, but the ones that even boating visitors know little about. The show’s signature piece features a toppled seawall on Ragged Key #1, within sight of the Boca Chita lighthouse on the park’s most popular island, but rarely visited.

The artist, Claire Holash, is a commercial realtor by trade, but studied photography at Barry University. She believes that photography is a part of who she is at the core. “The natural world inspires me,” says Holash. “What is created in this world without our interference is nothing short of amazing, and I am blessed to be able to capture small slivers of it and share it with my viewers.”

Lost Keys: Biscayne’s Forgotten Islands is part of the park’s Community Artists Program, started in 1997 as an outlet for the works of both established and emerging artists who are inspired by the beauty of Biscayne National Park. The program is made possible by the South Florida National Parks Trust through the generosity of Sedano’s Supermarkets and the Miami-Dade County Division of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
