National Hunting and Fishing Day and T. Boone Pickens Create PSA’s

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF Day) and T. Boone Pickens have teamed up to promote hunting, angling and conservation using print and audio public service announcements. Visitors to nhfday.org can listen and share the PSAs with other outdoor enthusiasts.

Each year, NHF Day takes place on the fourth Saturday in September, which is Sept. 24 in 2011.

“Mr. Pickens is a longtime and avid outdoorsman, as well as an advocate for the promotion of wildlife conservation,” said Misty Mitchell, Director of Conservation Programs Wonders of Wildlife. “We are very excited to have him as our honorary chairman this year, and through his PSAs we hope more people will get involved in the outdoor sports.”

PSAs are a vital part of promoting the awareness and message of NHF Day. Once viewers enter the NHF Day website, they can view press releases, facts about NHF Day and even locate areas to hunt, shoot or fish.

Organizations hosting NHF Day events across the nation can find many resources to assist them with organizing a great event; a planning guide, communication tools, and the ability to order print PSA’s and NHF Day bracelets.

The website also features a quick historical view of NHF Day and how it benefits outdoorsmen today. They can also see a list of past NHF Day honorary chairs including entertainers, athletes and other celebrities who lend their name and fame to help promote hunting, fishing and conservation.

Pickens is one of America’s most prominent and influential businessmen. He is a top authority on world energy issues, president and CEO of the investment firm BP Capital Management and founder of Mesa Petroleum. He is often quoted in the media and has testified many times before Congress.

A strong advocate for alternative energy in the U.S., his renowned “Pickens Plan” is designed to decrease dependency on foreign oil while harnessing domestic energy alternatives such as wind power. He is the author of “The First Billion is the Hardest” and “Boone Pickens: The Luckiest Guy in the World.” Pickens also is a noted philanthropist with gifts to charitable causes exceeding $700 million.

Sponsors for NHF Day 2011 continues to grow, and includes Wonders of Wildlife, NSSF, Bass Pro Shops, Smith & Wesson, Sportsman’s Channel, Realtree, Cabela’s, GunBroker.com, Yamaha, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Izaak Walton League of America and Pope and Young Club.
