How To Prevent Blisters When Hiking

   06.29.11

Blisters can be the bane of the hiker and mountaineer. I learned this tip for preventing blisters the hard way while I was climbing Mount Rainier.

To avoid blisters on your heels and feet, use duct tape directly on the area of your feet you want to protect. Wear your socks over the duct tape. This will make your feet slip and glide around in your hiking boot where there usually may be friction which causes blistering.

So before you put those boots on next time, tape up those vulnerable areas and you’ll be stepping just fine.
