The 3 Second Rule for Snowmobiling

To make sure that you are following the snowmobile ahead of you at a safe distance do the following:

  1. Select an object up ahead on the trail;
  2. Begin counting the seconds as soon as the person in front of you passes it;
  3. Continue counting until you reach the object.

If by the time you arrive at the object you have not yet counted a full three seconds, then you are following too closely and should adjust to allow for a greater distance between yourself and the other snowmobile.
