   06.03.11

Virginia Beach, Va. – STIHL, creator and producer of the nation’s premier lumberjack competition, the STIHL®TIMBERSPORTS® Series, and the Ram Truck brand, announced that Ram Truck will be the national presenting sponsor of the popular lumberjack competition, the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series.

“Ram has been a valued partner of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series in the past, and we are proud to expand our relationship,” said Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for STIHL Inc. “This partnership aligns two premium brands, known for quality and excellence, and creates a national marketing platform that reaches tens of millions of fans in the nation through ESPN2 and ESPNU television coverage.”

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series presented by Ram Truck features the nation’s top lumberjacks and lumberjills competing across the country in the U.S. Professional Series, consisting of five regional qualifying events and the U.S. Championship. The top four pros from each regional competition advance to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS U.S. Championship, where they will compete for a slice of the coveted U.S. title and the opportunity to advance to the World Championship in Holland Sept. 3-4.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series U.S. Championship returns to the Oregon State Fair for the second consecutive year Aug. 26-28, where not only will the top lumberjack athlete be crowned a champion, but he will also receive a new Ram 1500 pickup. The Series airs on ESPN2 reaching more than 96 million households.

In addition to serving as the presenting sponsor of the Series, Ram will honor the lumberjack who displays the competition’s best chopping performance at the U.S. Championship with the Ram Chopping Champion award.

The 2011 Ram Truck sponsorship also extends to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Collegiate Series presented by Ram Truck. Since 2003, the Collegiate Series has traveled to college campuses across the country to seek out the best amateur athletes and give them the opportunity to advance in the sport. More than 50 universities and colleges presently compete in the Series.

The Collegiate Series airs on ESPNU, providing a national platform to not only highlight the competition and the sport, but also spotlight the hosting schools and their forestry programs in the Collegiate Series competition shows. ESPNU reaches more than 71 million households. The Collegiate Championships will return to the Oregon State Fair with the five regional champions and one wildcard pick facing off in the single buck, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop to determine the nation’s top collegiate lumberjack. The collegiate champion wins a buy in to the 2012 Professional Series.

Another returning sponsor to the Series is Carhartt, the maker of best-in-class apparel for the active worker. As the official workwear sponsor of the Series, the competitors and crew will be outfitted in Carhartt shirts and pants during the competition. Like Ram, Carhartt has supported the Series for many years.

About Ram Truck Brand

The Ram Truck brand continues to establish its own identity and clearly define its customer since its launch as the newest Chrysler Group LLC vehicle brand. Creating a stand-alone brand for Ram trucks has allowed the brand to concentrate on how core customers use their trucks and what new features they’d like to see. Whether focusing on a family that uses its half-ton truck day in and day out, a hard-working Ram Heavy Duty owner or a business that depends on its commercial vehicles every day, Ram has the truck market covered.

For 2011, the Ram Truck brand added the hardest-working Ram trucks – the Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks – to its already award-winning truck lineup which includes the rugged and reliable Dakota, the Ram Cargo Van, Ram 1500 – the most-awarded Ram truck ever – and Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty pickups.

The 2011 Ram 1500 was named a Consumers Digest Best Buy and AUTOMOBILE Magazine All-Star. Ram 1500’s smooth-riding suspension and 20 mpg, 390 hp HEMI V8 are just two of the reasons it beat the competition. Ram 1500 was also named the Truck of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA).
