Vega State Park Seeks Volunteers to Complete Two Trails

   06.17.11

COLLBRAN, Colo. – Vega State Park is seeking volunteers to complete two trail projects this summer. The 2.5-mile North Trail, from the Oak Point Campground along Vega Reservoir to the park visitors’ center, is nearly completed, said Vega State Park Manager Bob Miller. The second project is the Aspen Trail along the scenic South Road.

“We’ve had great help from the folks at Volunteers for Outdoors Colorado, but we need additional local volunteers to complete these trails which will nearly circle the reservoir and offer spectacular views of the reservoir and the park,” said Miller.

Interested volunteers should call the Vega State Park office at (970) 487-3407.

Work on the trails started three years ago and could be completed in a few weekends if enough volunteers sign up, said Miller. Volunteers who sign up in advance to work at least six hours will receive a free pass, free camping and plenty of camaraderie, in return for a bit of sweat equity in a popular state park, said Miller.
