New Look for California Billfish Series
OutdoorHub 08.16.11
The new owners of the California Billfish Series recently launched a redesigned and improved tournament website, www.catalinaclassic.com, to provide anglers with everything they need to know about fishing the series and registering online.
The California Billfish Series is the largest big-money offshore tournament series in California. Now owned and operated by the founders of www.bdoutdoors.com, the series promises to be the biggest event on Catalina Island this year. The tournament committee has vowed to bring the good times back to the tournaments!
The series consists of three striped marlin tournaments, which alltake place on historic Catalina Island. The Zane Grey Invitational kicks off the series, running from September 11-13, while the Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic run simultaneously from September 18-20.
The new website provides anglers with all of the information they need for the ultimate tournament experience. The format of each event is unique with its own set of rules, so all interested participants are encouraged to log onto www.catalinaclassic.com to read the rules and scoring, register online, learn about the history of each event, check out the schedule of events and get all of the island information needed for planning their tournament. As the tournaments get closer, the new website will be updated with more information, including tips and tricks to find more fish from the guys who have won the most events.
To give the event a fresh new feel, the Tournament Committee also decided to step up the trophies and ordered custom bronze sculptures for each event. The tournament just got word from the foundry that the trophies are being created as we speak, and they look amazing! The top three teams in each event will receive a set of bronze sculptures. These aren’t cheapo trophies, they’re heavy, bronze pieces that will dress up the salon on any boat. Win one of these bad boys and you will be the envy of everyone on the dock.
During the tournaments, the Tournament Committee will post live recaps, daily winners, photo galleries, video and more on www.catalinaclassic.com.
The striped marlin sightings are already way better than than this time last year. We’ve heard of a few jig strikes at the Slide and 14 Mile Bank. It looks like the fish are going to show this year, so we hope to see you out on Catalina in September for the Zane Grey, Avalon Billfish Classic and the Catalina Classic.
