Mancos State Park’s Events for Labor Day Weekend in Colorado Announced

Mancos, Colo. – Mancos State Park is celebrating Labor Day weekend with a variety of events. Come and join the fun! These events are free, but a valid parks pass is required on all vehicles that enter the park. For more information please call (970) 533-7065.

Friday, Sept. 2

BIRD WALK: 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.

Meet at the kiosk near the park entrance and let’s see what new birds are here, plus watch and listen for many of the birds enjoying the park. The walk will be led by Carol Bylsma, Mancos State Park Naturalist and expert birder. Bring binoculars and bird guides if you have them.

BUTTERFLIES: 11 a.m. – Noon

Watch, chase, and with Carol’s help, identify the butterflies flitting about. Meet at the Chicken Creek trailhead parking area. Nets provided. A great activity for the whole family!

Saturday, Sept. 3

THE CHASE IS ON: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Join Mancos State Park Naturalist, Carol Bylsma, for the chase and identification of the butterflies flitting around the park. Meet at the Chicken Creek trailhead parking area. Nets provided. A great activity for the whole family!

WILD GAMES: 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Meet at the grassy area across from the main entrance gate. Fun games for kids of all ages and kids-at-heart too!

CONCERT: Janet Emmons & Codi Jameson, 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

These fine singer/songwriters and musicians will entertain us with their original songs and folk music. Their wonderful voices will make us happy! The performance will be in the campground amphitheater.

Sunday, Sept. 4

BUTTERFLY CHASE: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Watch, chase and with the park naturalist’s help, identify the butterflies that frequent the park. Meet at the Chicken Creek trailhead parking area. Nets are provided. This is a great family activity!

BIRD & WILDFLOWER WALK: 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Join Carol, park naturalist, for a discovery walk to see what birds are around and what wildflowers are blooming. Meet at the west end parking area to take a gentle stroll of discovery. Bring binoculars if you have them.

CAMPFIRE PROGRAM: Mancos John, 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Mancos John hails from Mancos and will entertain us with a tall tale or two about his encounters with bears when he was a miner wandering these mountains. A fun finale for the season and all the family will love his animated presentation. Join us in the campground amphitheater for this fun event.
