Time to Sign Up for Free Youth Upland Bird Hunts in Oregon

Sept. 1 SALEM, Ore.— Registration for youth upland bird hunts opens Friday, Sept. 2. These special hunts are held statewide on weekends in September and give hunters age 17 and under an early chance to hunt pheasant, quail and dove.

All events are free and most include a free shotgun skills clinic, too. Hunters 14 and older do need to purchase a hunting license ($14.50) and upland game bird validation ($8.50) before the hunt. All hunters, regardless of age, also need to have an upland game bird HIP validation (free).

Only youth hunters certified in hunter education are eligible to attend. Each youth hunter must have an adult (21 years or older) accompanying them on the hunt, although the adult may not hunt.

Most hunts require pre-registration. Call the numbers below to register.
