Fishing Tournament at Horseshoe Lake State Park in Illinois to Honor Patriot Day

Granite City, IL – The Eighth Annual Patriot Day Fishing Tournament will be held on Sunday, September 11 at Horseshoe Lake State Park’s C.A.R.P. pond, hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Metro East Patriots Day Committee.

The park grounds will open and registration of children ages 4-15 will begin at 10:00 a.m. Children and families can enjoy the IDNR Urban Fishing Trailer, the virtual fishing simulator, and the felt fish pond. The fishing tournament will begin at 11:00 a.m. Trophies and door prizes will be awarded at 12:00 noon.

Congress unanimously designated September 11th of each year as Patriot Day. Metro East residents will honor first responders, firefighters, police, paramedics and military personnel who spring into action during local and national emergencies. The Metro-East Patriots Day Committee encourages citizens to display their flags at half-staff on Sunday, September 11 to honor those who have died since the September 11, 2001 attack. A brief ceremony to honor the memories those killed in New York, Washington D.C. and in Pennsylvania will be held at 10:45 a.m. at the C.A.R.P. pond in Horseshoe Lake State Park.
