EverStart Series Western Division to Host Event on Clear Lake, California

Clearlake, Calif. Sept. 14, 2011 – The EverStart Series is headed to Clear Lake Sept. 22-24 for the fourth and final stop in the 2011 Western Division series. The tournament will feature as many as 300 pros and co-anglers competing for top awards up to $35,000 plus a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard for the pro and a Ranger boat with an Evinrude or Mercury outboard plus $5,000 for the co-angler.

“Current conditions are ideal on Clear Lake and I don’t really expect them to change,” said FLW pro Mike Folkestad of Orange, Calif., aka the California Legend. “The moon is full, water temperatures are about 78 degrees and air temperatures are in the upper 80s. Fishing is awful good, this should be a great tournament.

“Everything is working out here,” Folkestad went on to say. “Swimbaits seem to be working the best but you’ll see guys drop-shotting, using crankbaits, Senkos, jigs, and even some topwater frogs. Everybody should be catching a limit.

There is a tremendous population of 3 to 5 pound bass in the lake,” Folkestad added. “The key is going to be getting on the right school of fish to bring in those bigger bass, possibly in those rocky areas where you can bounce the bait on the rocks. It is probably going to take 54 pounds to win, 26 pounds per day.”

Anglers will take off from Redbud Park located at 14655 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake, Calif., at 7 each morning. Weigh-ins will also be held at the marina beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Thur. and Fri. and 4 p.m. on Sat. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Pros will fish for a top award of $35,000 plus a 198VX Ranger boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger 177TR with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.

The EverStart Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of four tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the Strike King Angler of the Year title along with $5,000 for the pro and $2,000 for the co-angler. The top 40 pros and co-anglers from each respective division will qualify for the EverStart Series Championship that will be held on Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Tenn., Oct. 27-30.

The EverStart Series tournament on Clear Lake is being hosted by Twin Pine Casino & Hotel.
