Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV, is airing a special episode of “Spanish Fly: A Tribute to Jose Wejebe” this weekend in memory of the network’s popular host, Jose Wejebe, 54, who passed away on Friday, April 6th. As an integral member of the Outdoor Channel family, the commemorative episode is one of the ways the network is honoring Jose’s legacy and lifelong commitment to the outdoor and angling communities.
The special tribute tells the story of the life of one of the greatest fishing legends on television, including some of the best moments from the past 17 years of “Spanish Fly,” going back to the very first episode of the immensely popular saltwater fishing and fly fishing television show that aired in 1995. The special will also feature never-before-seen footage that will give audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the icon’s true personality. Outdoor Channel also plans to air a series of new episodes in 2013, which will include Jose’s never-before-seen, final broadcasts.
As one of the most respected fishing guides on the blue planet, Jose Wejebe was one-of-a-kind, bringing decades of riveting fishing expeditions to millions of viewers. His adventures in sport fishing were highlighted each week on Outdoor Channel, transporting audiences to exotic locales, such as the Seychelles off the eastern coast of Africa, the Coral Sea 300 miles off Australia, to Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama, the Bahamas and the West Coast.
