Rapala Lands 19 New IGFA World Records in 2011

It was 1939 when the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) was established. The non-profit organization – the first to devise a universal code to help organize anglers in their pursuit of catching the largest fish in the world – remains the official keepers of record catches to this day.

Good thing, too, as it was just three years earlier when Lauri Rapala carved that famous first balsawood emulation of a minnow. “And since the IGFA’s beginning 73 years ago, Rapala lures have caught more world-record fish than any other artificial – period,” says Jack Vitek, world record coordinator for IGFA. 2011 was no different…

But it wasn’t just the 19 world-record fish landed on Rapala lures that stood out during the Ninth-Annual World Record Achievement Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach, Florida. The company also received an award for the 24 anglers who verified their world-record catches on IGFA-certified Rapala scales. Poundage aplenty weighed on Rapala scales…

Another huge accomplishment was that five of the largest fish landed last year were taken via Sufix line – five extra gold stars for one of the respected Rapala brands, Sufix.

Once again, the Rapala name sounded off synonymously with IGFA and the biggest, baddest fish on the globe.
