Arkansas’ Mom’s Lake Dedication Scheduled for May 3

Mom’s Lake, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s newest addition to the Family and Community Fishing Program, will be dedicated on May 3 at 1 p.m. Mom’s Lake is near Corning in Clay County.

The nine-acre lake was donated to the AGFC by Ben Williams, Jr. and his family so that local children, senior adults and disabled anglers would have a good place to fish. The lake features an abundance of large bluegill and redear bream, as well as many largemouth bass. Catchable channel catfish will be stocked several times each year from April through September.

Mom’s Lake may be fished only by persons 15 and younger, 65 and older or holders of a disability license. One properly licensed person who is 16 – 64 years old may assist and fish with someone who fits one of these categories and is actively fishing. Daily creel limits are 3 catfish and 25 bream. Largemouth bass must be released immediately to the water. Fishing is allowed during daylight hours. All fishing must be done with a hand-held rod or pole only.

A parking lot has been built and a primitive boat launching ramp on the east end of the lake is planned this summer. Boats are allowed, but may only be powered by electric trolling motors or with a paddle.
