Crappie USA Tournament Results for Kentucky’s Lake Cumberland at Burnside, Kentucky

This past Saturday Crappie USA held a qualifying event on Kentucky’s Lake Cumberland near Burnside, Kentucky. These anglers from 9 different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 24th-27th, 2012 on the Barkley/Kentucky Lakes at Cadiz, Kentucky.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Roy Cape of Cordele, Georgia and Robert Harris of Warner Robins, Georgia weighing in 7.61 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Roy and Robert also earned $500.00 for first place in the semi-pro division Ranger Cup Award and $250.00 for capturing big fish of the event with a 1.58 pound crappie. Roy and Robert were long line trolling in Indian Creek until 12:00 noon, catching only 1 keeper fish. The team traveled to Wolf Creek where they caught 15-20 keepers on chartreuse/white colored Tom’s Jigs over a channel 15-18 feet deep.
Second place went to the Liberty, Kentucky team of George Rodgers and Tim Marple with a weight of 7 pound and earning $500.00. George and Tim were fishing Wolf Creek in 6-12 feet of water using Charlie Brewer Sliders jigs spider rigging and chartreuse/green Southern Pro jigs under a float to catch 23 keepers for the day.
In third place was Joe and Janette Carter of Gilbert, Southern Carolina weighing in 6.03 pounds and earning $250.00. Joe and Janette long lined pink and June bug colored jigs in Wolf and Cabin creeks in 8-15 feet of water and also tight lining over wood cover to catch 20-25 keepers for the day.
Rodney Goforth of Yosemite, Kentucky and Jason Goforth of Harrodsburg, Kentucky took fourth place with a weight of 5.51 pounds.
Fifth place went to the Columbia, Kentucky team of David Jones and Robbie Harmon weighing in 5.4 pound of crappie.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was Terry Barker of Eubank, Kentucky with a total weight of 7.93 pounds and earning $800.00. Terry was fishing Wolf creek in 10-20 feet of water spider rigging with Cumberland rod holders. Terry said the black/chartreuse Charlie Brewer sliders seem to work best. He also caught a few fish long line trolling early to end up with 30 fish for the day. Teams are allowed to weigh in 7 fish for the day.
Second place went to James Todd and James A. Todd of Crab Orchard, Kentucky with a weight of 7.51 pounds and earning $500.00. The Todd team was spider rigging in Fishing Creek in 6 feet of water using black/green and yellow/green Cabin Creek jigs tipped with minnows to catch 30 keepers for the day.
Taking third place was the team of Donnie Burris of Gradyville, Kentucky and Darren Adams of Columbia, Kentucky with a weight of 7.29 pound and earning $200.00. Donnie and Darren were fishing Caney Creek in 15-20 feet of water over brush using black/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs to catch 10 keepers for the day.
In fourth was the Somerset, Kentucky team of Todd Dalton and Robert Massey weighing in 6.93 pounds of crappie. Todd and Robert were fishing main lake cuts in 15 feet of water or less using chartreuse jigs to catch over 30 keepers for the day.
Fifth place went to the Mt. Sterling, Kentucky team of Terry and Kris Mann weighing in 6.9 pound including their 1.53 pound kicker fish which took second biggest fish of the event to give the team $100.00. Terry and Kris were fishing Beaver Creek and Otter Creek spider rigging various depths to catch 30 fishing using live bait.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.
Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $310,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
