Expanded Brush Outdoor Skills Day Scheduled for June 2 in Colorado

Brush-area families are invited to take part in an expanded Outdoor Skills Day at Wacker Ponds, Saturday June 2. This year’s event will include opportunities for participants to try their hand at shooting clay targets with shotguns, as well as archery, fishing (fly and spin cast) and wildlife viewing. Presented in partnership between the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Washington County Pheasants Forever, the City of Brush and 4-H Shooting Sports, this all-day event offers a taste of wildlife recreation for young and old alike.
“Each year the Brush event grows due to the commitment and effort of the Turkey Federation and 4-H Shooting Sports,” said Devon Lane, district wildlife manager, Colorado Parks & Wildlife for Brush. “We are so pleased to partner with these groups to offer this opportunity to our residents and hope to move them from once a year participants to year-round hunters, anglers, and wildlife enthusiasts.”
Opportunities at the event include:
- Target Archery with 3-D targets and instruction
- Shooting clays with shotguns
- Casting for warm water fish at the ponds
- Shooting .22’s safely with certified instructors
- Learning about wildlife species of Colorado
- Door prizes, including fishing poles, survival gear, and more
Lunch will be provided by the City of Brush for all attendees free of charge. No reservations required, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. A limited number of poles will be available on loan.
