Possible World Record Snakehead Caught in Virginia

Measuring four feet long and weighing a whopping 18 pounds, 4 ounces, a snakehead dubbed “frankenfish” by locals might be the biggest snakehead ever caught. Jason Duran, who pulled the fish from the Occoquan River in Virginia, has sent pictures and the scale used to weigh the fish into the International Game Fish Association for certification as the new world record snakehead.

The current record for snakehead stands at 17 pounds, 4 ounces and was caught in Japan, where snakehead are a native species. In Virginia the public has been asked to kill any snakehead caught because they have been blamed for driving out native species like bass, shad, and even frogs.
