Texas Team Trail Team of the Year Update
OutdoorHub 05.21.12
With the first three tournaments in the bag, the Texas Team Trail presented by Cabela’s has grown with great strides. Many of the tournaments have been decided by a narrowing margins, but the Lucas Oil Team of the Year race is shaping up to be quite the race. The Cabela’s sponsored team of Jeff Reynolds and angling partner Randall Bruce hold a slim two-point lead (402 pts.) over Stephen Johnston and Dick Newberry (400 pts.)
If Reynolds and Bruce are able to hold on to the lead they will receive customized Texas Team Trail rings designed specifically for the Lucas Oil Team of the Year, along with entry fees paid in 2013. The rings are provided by one of the Texas Team Trails sponsors Lucas Oil.
“We are extremely pleased with the way the entire season has been moving forward,” said Jamie Devney, Director of Sales and Marketing/Team Lucas. “The rings are really one-of-a-kind since this is the inaugural year of the team tournament trail. We are happy to be part of such a successful tournament trail. The entire Lucas Oil team is hanging on the edge of our seats to find out which team comes out on top.”
Reynolds and Bruce have fished lights out throughout the year, finishing in 14th place at the inaugural event on Sam Rayburn Lake. At the same event Johnston and Newberry finished third. The second tournament was good to the leaders as they finished seventh on Ray Roberts Lake. Johnston and Newberry were right behind them in eighth place. The third event saw the lead team taking a third place finish on Lake Livingston event.
“Consistency has been our key ingredient this year. Winning Team of the Year would be huge for us,” said Reynolds. “We have really dedicated ourselves to the Texas Team Trail and to win as the best team out there would mean a bunch. This truly is a team event and I know I couldn’t do it without Randall fishing right there with me. We have really been fortunate to fish this great series.”
The second place team of Johnston and Newberry happen to be sponsored by Lucas Oil and continue to put themselves in a spot to claim the Lucas Oil Team of the Year rings.
“This really is coming down to the wire,” said Johnston, “Each team has fought tooth and nail to put themselves in a position to win those rings. I think, being sponsored by Lucas Oil, it would be that much more special to come away with the title. I can’t think of a better ending or a better way to show how much Lucas Oil means to this team than to win for them.”
Along with title-sponsor Cabela’s, Texas Team Trail has also welcomed Lucas Oil, Ranger Boats, Stratos Boats, Triton Boats, Evinrude, Minn Kota, Mercury Marine, Talon, Lowrance, Power-Pole, RAM Trucks, Boater’s Insurance, MotorGuide and Angler Skins as official partners.
