Teddy Roosevelt protected these spectacular geological features in 1908 when he issued the proclamation creating Pinnacles National Monument.
Pinnacles now encompasses about 26,000 acres in the southern portion of the Gabilan Mountains, more than half of it designated as wilderness.
An easy escape from both the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, Pinnacles provides many opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, wildlife watching and wildflower viewing. Ranger talks, guided hikes and evening programs take place throughout the spring on the east side of the park.
