Honors for Boone and Crockett Books and eBooks

Hunting and conservation books and eBooks published by Boone and Crockett Club are being honored alongside general-interest titles in two prestigious international competitions.

The Independent Publisher Book Awards and PubWest Book Design Awards are hailing Boone and Crockett publications for excellence in 2012.

“These are some of the highest honors in publishing but the impacts go beyond awards alone,” said Julie Houk, director of publications for the Club. “Each time a Boone and Crockett book is judged favorably against books of different genres, especially when some of the judges are respected New York literary and design critics, it adds another layer of public appreciation for hunters’ leadership in conservation.”

Theodore Roosevelt Hunter-Conservationist, an eBook version of the first illustrated biography to offer a sweeping view of the outdoorsman, rancher, adventurer, soldier, statesman and 26th President of the United States, received a 2012 Bronze Award (tie) for Best Non-Fiction eBook from the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Other top finishers in the category include books on how-to create children’s books, pop culture in New York City and the impacts of elections in American history.

In 2010, the printed Theodore Roosevelt Hunter-Conservationist received a Benjamin Franklin Gold Award from the Independent Book Publishers Association, a Gold Medal from the PubWest Book Design Awards and a Silver Ippy Award from Independent Publisher. The book also was a finalist for a ForeWord Book of the Year award.

Houk said, “This publication continues to garner honors and awards, which is especially gratifying for Boone and Crockett Club since the subject is our organization’s founder—an avid hunter who helped shape the modern conservation movement.”

Other 2012 honors for Boone and Crockett publications include a Gold Award for Best Reference Book for Records of North American Big Game 13th Edition and a Silver Award for Best Cover Design for Vintage Hunting Album. Both titles were recognized in the PubWest Book Design Awards.

Other awardees in these categories include books on a large art display in the California desert and reference manuals on companion-animal dentistry and common veterinary fees.

Records of North American Big Game 13th Edition is Boone and Crockett’s tabular listing of nearly 28,000 native North American big game trophies in 38 categories. Trophies that meet the Club’s all-time minimum scores and were accepted by Dec. 31, 2009, are included. Each record includes score, location and year taken, and more.

Vintage Hunting Album is a coffee-table collection of old-time hunting photos dating back to the late 1800s. Over 200 remarkable images from the Boone and Crockett trophy archives take readers back in time.
