Davis Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League LBL Division on Kentucky/Barkley Lakes

William Davis of Sheffield, Ala., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 21 pounds, 2 ounces Saturday to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League LBL Division event on Kentucky/Barkley lakes. For his victory, Davis earned $4,119.
“It was a really tough day out there,” said Davis. “I was very fortunate to get a few big bites from three different spots. I had around 50 bites throughout the day, but I really only had four big ones. The bite was better in the morning and then slowed down.”
Davis stayed on Kentucky Lake for the entire tournament and targeted the ledges from 18 to 20 feet deep. He caught most of his fish with a shaky-head rig, and said plum was the hot color for the day.
“The key to my victory was my co-angler,” Davis continued. “I had forgotten my net, so he had to ‘net’ all of my fish with his hands. He was very good, though, and he definitely helped me win the tournament.”

The final BFL LBL Division tournament is scheduled for Sept. 15-16 on the Lake Barkley in Kuttawa, Ky. After that fifth LBL Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 18-20 Regional Championship on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Ala. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
