Glacier National Park, This Week’s National Park Getaway

Straddling the Continental Divide in northwestern Montana, glacier-scoured mountains tower over a wilderness landscape, creating a majestic backdrop for this week’s National Park Getaway.

Glacier National Park is named for its prominent glacier-carved terrain and the remnant glaciers descended from ice ages of 10,000 years past. The park preserves more than a million acres of forests, alpine meadows, lakes, rugged peaks and glacial-carved valleys in the northern Rocky Mountains.

Within the park more than 740 miles of trails, hundreds of lakes and more than 1,500 miles of perennial streams entice people of all ages and abilities to explore outdoors. History buffs will find intrigue in the 375 historic properties maintained in the park, including Glacier’s famous National Historic Landmark, the Going-to-the-Sun-Road.

This week’s National Park Getaway article shares views from the park’s most famous road, pointing out the rugged beauty and recreational opportunities that await your discovery. Start your adventure at www.nps.gov/getaways.
