Mountain Lion Struck by Vehicle in Wildcat Hills in Nebraska

A mountain lion was struck and killed by a vehicle on Nebraska Hwy. 71 south of Scottsbluff near the Wildcat Hills Nature Center on the evening of Aug. 27.

The mountain lion was a young male weighing approximately 110 pounds. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission retrieved the carcass and will use the pelt for educational efforts in the area.

Game and Parks previously has documented mountain lions in the Wildcat Hills, where steep slopes and woody cover create appropriate habitat.

Since 1991, there have been 73 confirmations of mountain lion presence in Nebraska outside the Pine Ridge.
