Something for Everyone at Georgia’s Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day Sept. 17

Need more information on attracting backyard wildlife? Want to know more about managing your land for wildlife? Looking to improve your wildlife plots to attract game animals?  Are you trying to maximize timber revenue?  Do you need continuing education credits in pesticide, logging or other related topics?

All of these questions and many more can be answered by professionals at the upcoming 2012 Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the University of Georgia campus in Griffin, Ga.

Landowners, farmers or sportsmen who wish to increase the value and benefits of the land they own, hunt or manage should attend this event where federal and state government agency officials and representatives of private business will provide management recommendations and demonstrate real-life techniques.

More than 30 topics will be showcased, including:

• Wildlife Opening Management
• Pond Management
• Management for Wild Turkeys, Doves, Quail, Deer (each separate topics)
• Feral Hog Issues
• Selling and Marketing Timber
• Prescribed Burning
• Pinestraw Production
• Cost Share Assistance Programs
• GPS/GIS Use in Managing Land
• Invasive Insects, Disease and Plants
• Safety and Use of Chainsaws and Chippers

Continuing Education Credits (CEU) are available for several fields, including pesticide (several categories), forestry, logger, arborist and wildlife.

Attendees will shuttle between field day topic sites via tram and will receive a take-home booklet with in-depth topic and speaker information.

Registration is $30 and includes lunch. Pre-registrants will receive an

Agroforestry and Wildlife Field Day ball cap.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is comprised of six divisions which carryout DNR’s mission to sustain, enhance, protect and conserve Georgia’s natural, historic and cultural resources. As one of six divisions within DNR, the Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) is charged with conserving, enhancing and promoting Georgia’s wildlife resources, including game and nongame animals, fish and protected plants. WRD is comprised of four sections – Game Management, Fisheries Management, Law Enforcement and Nongame Conservation, which regulate hunting, fishing and boat operation, protect nongame and endangered wildlife, provide conservation education and enforce laws for the protection and use of Georgia’s natural resources.
